About Casa Joya
For a vacation that includes the best of both worlds - the history of colonial San Miguel as well as the vibrancy of contemporary Mexico - a stay at the stunning Casa Joya can't be beat.
Casa Joya is a beautiful, contemporary three-bedroom home newly constructed by internationally renowned San Miguel resident architects House+House. With walls of glass and good siting on the lot, Casa Joya (or "jewel house") is sunny and full of light, a rare feature in many San Miguel houses. It is situated in the bustling Centro of town, up a short residential walkway accessible only by foot, so away from traffic noise.
Just two blocks from the main Mercado and less than a 10-minute level walk to the Jardin, Casa Joya offers a great location as well as a showcase of the amazing architecture of Mexico today.
Enter through custom mesquite doors into the decorative stone patio to the first floor of this warm, art-filled home featuring regional artisans. Here, walls of glass bring light into all rooms, including the living/dining/kitchen "great room" and the master bedroom with king bed and its own en-suite bathroom.
A small patio off the kitchen features a dramatic two-story waterwall sculpture studded with cobblestones.
Upstairs, on the second floor, are two additional bedrooms decorated in warm Mexican colors, one with a queen bed and the other with two twins. These bedrooms share a bathroom with striking tile work and polished concrete details. All bedrooms are newly outfitted with good bedding, sheets, and towels.
On the third floor, you come to a casual family room with new flatscreen TV and hidden wetbar on one side, opposite the colorful, shaded roof terrace with its vistas of the historic town center. This comfortable covered patio is ideal for quiet reading, cocktails, conversation, and watching twilight and evening fall over San Miguel's historic skyline.
You can also climb up an outer staircase to a higher roof terrace with unparalled views of five of San Miguel's major churches and the western mountain sunsets.
The house is wired for high-speed DSL Internet connection, and there is house-wide wireless high-speed Internet access as well. This connection is now included in the rental price. In addition, the local Telmex landline phone offers a new long-distance service to make free calls back to the U.S. and Canada. Casa Joya also has an iPod docking station if you want to bring your own music.
Martha the maid comes 3x weekly. She can do light cooking (breakfast or an occasional comida) for an extra fee.
Casa Joya is perfect for rental by two couples, but one or two people would also be quite at home in this lovely and comfortable retreat. Older children age 12 and up are welcome. The house can accommodate up to 6 guests, but preference is given to rental parties of 4 or fewer guests.
For each rental, we add 6% taxes, and there is also a refundable security/damage deposit of $500 USD.
PLEASE NOTE: For a weekend rental (2-3 nights), there is a minimum rate of $1000 USD, plus 6% taxes and a refundable security deposit of $500 USD. For rentals of 4-5-6 nights, the per diem rate is $250 USD, plus taxes and the refundable security deposit.
NOTE: If a larger group is traveling together and wants to stay close to one another in similar accommodations, it would be possible to rent this house together with Casa de las Estrellas, another three-bedroom house by the same architect that is located just around the corner, less than a minute's walk away.
