About Casa de la Princesa

In the heart of Centro San Miguel, the charming Casa de la Princesa has it all: location, Parroquia views, roof terrace, new appliances and a history (it was once owned by an Italian princess; hence the name).

With 3 bedrooms and 3 1/2 bathrooms, the house was recently remodeled to include a whole-house water purification system. It boasts an open floorplan on the main floor, accessed down some stairs from the street level. The living/dining area flow into the kitchen (complete with Maytag fridge with icemaker, GE stove, dishwasher and microwave, plus a boveda domed ceiling), which opens up to a patio dining area with an antique stone wall fountain. Local talavera dinnerware, hand-blown glassware and stainless pots/pans make your food prep a pleasure. The living area's centerpiece is a hand-carved cantera limestone fireplace with gas log insert. The dining table seats 6 people. Completing your Old World experience are 30-foot ceilings over this ground level, original wooden beams, hand-laid brick floors and wrought-ironwork by master artisans. Traditional equipale leather furniture from Jalisco and other folkart pieces add to the ambience.

The second-floor master bedroom features a view of the Parroquia church from French balcony doors that overlook the dining patio and fountain below. This room has a king-size iron canopy bed, an en-suite bathroom with tub/shower, a gas fireplace and an LED flat-screen TV. It's even possible to lie in bed and watch the fireworks! Also on this floor is the second bedroom/bathroom with shower, skylight and street view. This bedroom has a queen bed with hand-carved Spanish colonial headboard and a gas fireplace to keep warm and cozy on chilly nights.

The outdoor terraza is on the third floor with views to the East, West and North, taking in stunning vistas of the San Miguel landmarks. There is comfortable seating, plus an umbrella for sunny days. This is where you'll enjoy your evening cocktails -- margaritas, guacamole and chips freshly prepared by the housekeeper/cook who works 3 days a week on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. She is a great chef, so ask her to prepare her carrot/ginger soup, enchiladas verdes or chicken mole! You pay extra for the ingredients, but she can prepare the meal during her days in the house.

If you want the cook to come in the evening to prepare a special dinner, that is also possible -- with proper advance notice to her. In this case, you'd pay her extra for her after-hours wages of 100 pesos/hour with a 3-hour minimum to shop/prepare/serve your special meal.

From the terraza you enter the third bedroom, which has a Moroccan influence. A queen-size memory foam mattress ensures a good night's sleep. Here you also have an en-suite bathroom with shower. This space is an inspiring place to read, paint, or just day dream while enjoying the expansive views. There is a flat screen LED TV here as well. The third floor Morocco room suite bedroom is a favorite among guests for watching movies on the DVD player, lounging, fireworks, yoga or simply enjoying your own private rooftop suite.

Casa de la Princesa is located just 3 blocks east of the Jardin, making it easy to walk to restaurants, shops, the produce and artisans' markets, as well as all the historic sites. The house has cable TV service with U.S. channels, wi/fi Internet service and a washer/dryer.
