Travel “Mexico’s Freedom Trail” along Ruta 2010, as the country celebrates its bicentennial of the War of Independence against Spain. A sound-and-light show across the facade of San Miguel’s Parroquia church on weekend evenings is just one of the festivities planned during the celebration month of September 2010.

Four-hundred years of music and culture in “New Spain” will be celebrated in the fourth annual International Baroque Music Festival, to be held in San Miguel de Allende from March 1-6, 2010.

A wide variety of classical concerts will be performed on Fridays and Saturdays this winter in San Miguel de Allende’s St. Paul Church, all part of the Pro-Musica International Concert Series.

Celebrations marking the birthday of Gen. Allende, city son and hero of the Mexican War of Independence, take place in San Miguel de Allende on Jan 23rd this year, including parades and a special bullfight.

The San Miguel chapter of PEN, the international writer’s organization, is sponsoring 6 lectures with local authors and historians during January and February 2010. All lectures take place in the auditorium of the Bellas Artes museum on various Tuesdays at 6 pm.

One of the largest jazz events held in Mexico, the 15th Annual International Festival of Jazz and Blues takes place this year in San Miguel de Allende from Nov 26 – Dec 5, 2009.

While not as famous as some other Mexican towns for its Day of the Dead activities, San Miguel nonetheless celebrates this most Mexican of holidays in many wonderful ways and venues.

San Miguel’s taxis will form a procession on Thursday, Oct 1, to wind into town for the annual Blessing of the Taxis, ending up around 6 pm in front of the Parroquia church in the Jardin.

The early-morning hours of Sat, Oct 3rd, will be filled with fireworks, dancing and processions as San Miguel celebrates the Alborada, part of the Festival de San Miguel.
