One of the largest jazz events held in Mexico, the 15th Annual International Festival of Jazz and Blues takes place this year in San Miguel de Allende from Nov 26 – Dec 5, 2009.

While not as famous as some other Mexican towns for its Day of the Dead activities, San Miguel nonetheless celebrates this most Mexican of holidays in many wonderful ways and venues.

San Miguel’s taxis will form a procession on Thursday, Oct 1, to wind into town for the annual Blessing of the Taxis, ending up around 6 pm in front of the Parroquia church in the Jardin.

The early-morning hours of Sat, Oct 3rd, will be filled with fireworks, dancing and processions as San Miguel celebrates the Alborada, part of the Festival de San Miguel.

Mexican Independence Day, the Festival de San Miguel and Day of the Dead are key fall events in San Miguel de Allende.

Two special Cuban jazz concerts will be held in San Miguel’s Teatro Angela Peralta on Aug 21 and 28.

Those who missed John Davidson’s sold-out performance at Patsy’s Place in July have a second chance. A new concert, plus lunch at Patsy’s rancho north of San Miguel, has been scheduled for August 30th.

TV and Broadway star John Davidson will perform at Patsy’s Place on Sunday, July 26, in the countryside north of San Miguel.

Talented young Mexican opera students, a dozen or so selected nationwide from almost 140 contestants, will compete in a special “sing-off” on June 20, 2009, at the Teatro Angela Peralta in San Miguel.
