Gabriel Hernandez Cadena, a jazz pianist originally from Cuba, will star in two special Cuban jazz nights at San Miguel’s Teatro Angela Peralta at the end of August. On Friday, Aug 21, at 7:30 pm, he will perform in a trio that also includes Mexican-born Victor Monterrubio on drums and Chicago’s Tyler Mitchell on bass, all of them playing jazz pieces composed by Hernandez. One week later, on Aug 27, at 7:30 pm, Hernandez offers another concert, this time playing the bass and accompanied by other Mexican and Cuban singers. This latter concert, a benefit for the local Centro de Crecimiento charity, is a tribute to Hernandez’s father, Gabriel Hernandez Diaz, himself a renowned Cuban pianist.
