Talented young Mexican opera students, a dozen or so selected nationwide from almost 140 contestants, will compete in a special “sing-off” on June 20, 2009, at the Teatro Angela Peralta in San Miguel. Sponsored by the Opera de San Miguel association, the contest winners will receive scholarships for future opera studies in the U.S. and Europe. The “concurso” in San Miguel is always a lively, inspiring performance by Mexico’s finest – and it is always sold out. Tickets should be available in the next week or so at the Teatro’s box office at the corner of Calles Mesones and Hernandez Macias.
