New this year in San Miguel, the four-day La Calaca Festival will honor the traditional Dia de los Muertos celebrations with a contemporary arts and cultural festival of international proportions.
From Nov 1-4, 2012, the multi-disciplinary event will revere and expand indigenous traditions, while re-imagining them for the future. The festival will feature a collection of local and international artists and musicians whose work will be displayed throughout cobblestone streets, plazas, and graveyards of historic downtown San Miguel de Allende (a UNESCO World Heritage site). La Calaca will present large-scale participatory art installations, parades, workshops, music, and the Earth Harp, made famous by its appearance at Burning Man. Numerous additional events to be announced.
