Visitors to San Miguel who fly into the Leon/Guanajuato Airport now have a quicker route to get to San Miguel. A new country road that cuts through the high-chapparal landscape near the village of Cruz del Palmar totally bypasses the Presa Allende, the large reservoir to the southwest of San Miguel. Thus, instead of approaching San Miguel around the Presa and up from the south, this bypass brings you into town from the west, coming over the train tracks and onto Calzada de la Estacion and then up Calle Umaran into the Jardin. The good news for travelers is that the new road cuts the drive time from Leon Airport to San Miguel by about 15 minutes — so now your transfer from the airport takes only about an hour and 15 minutes, instead of the previous hour and a half.
